When existing AxleTech products do not provide the optimal solution AxleTech partners with our customers to design and develop new products tailored to the specific application.    

For example, an AxleTech customer was developing a new vehicle to be powered by electric motors at each wheel end. These motors typically run at high speed and require substantial reduction to obtain proper wheel speed. AxleTech worked with the customer and electric motor supplier to design fully sealed wheel end integrating a drum brake and planetary reduction with the electric motor into a wheel end module directly connected to the steering and suspension system. AxleTech then procured the components, assembled the test modules, and installed them on test vehicles.   

In another program AxleTech worked with our customer to develop a specific ISAS drive system for the Future Tactical Truck System (FTTS). This included an Independent Suspension Axle System (ISAS) with cast aluminum control arms, torsion bar ‘spring’ medium, aluminum central carrier, and planetary hub reduction wheel ends. The assembly was built into a module for direct integration into the vehicle frame.
