Some higher GVW on / off highway trucks need all-wheel-drive for mobility while axle loading requires 8x8 or even 10x8 drive systems. For these cases AxleTech offers steer drive axles in tandem configuration based on the 4000 and 5000 series planetary hub reduction axles. Typical applications include military/tactical, dump/tipper, AT crane, oil field service, and mining.
Features include axle ratings from 35,300 lb (16t) - 60,000 lb (27.2t). Ratio options range from 4.8:1-28:1. Turn angle can be up to 42 degrees. The kingpin angle is 7 degrees reducing ‘scrub radius’ for better vehicle control under braking and excellent steering self-centering while turning. Double cardan joints make for smoother rolling turns. AxleTech planetary steer tandems are available with CTI, ABS, traction control and range of widths from 83.2” (2113mm) to 110in (2794mm) over hub flanges.
