US Gear expands gear manufacturing capacity and product line

Troy, Michigan – AxleTech International is making significant capital investments in its gearing division, US Gear, based in Chicago, Illinois. The company is increasing its gear manufacturing capacity with new machines from gear cutting equipment leader, Gleason.

The investment includes a Gleason 600HC cutting machine for bevel gear sets, as well as a Gleason lapping machine, and a Gleason single flank tester. The company is also adding a Mazak turning center and state of the art CMM equipment. The first installment of the equipment will be launched in November, and the second phase will launch in April 2017.

“This multi-million dollar project underscores AxleTech’s commitment to invest in cutting-edge technology and gearing capacity for both high performance gearing, and commercial and military axle applications. Furthermore, this allows us to design, develop, and deliver gears to our customers faster,” said Heather Klish, Vice President of Operations at AxleTech.

US Gear is exhibiting at the SEMA show in Las Vegas this week where it is displaying its new Ford Super 8.8” IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) ring and pinion gear set, featuring the Lightning super finishing. The gears are designed for the 2015 and newer Ford Mustang and are the latest addition to the company’s line of high performance gears. Additionally, US Gear is launching bearing kits and installation kits, as well as gear oil, and its Lightning-branded limited slip differential additives. US Gear is located in the Central Hall, booth 22927.
